I guess you may be wondering why I have waited the day before the Royal Wedding to make any comment about it…
Truth be told, I’ve simply been very busy.
But, no more! I will be awake at 3 a.m. Eastern Time watching Prince William marry the absolutely stunning Kate Middleton. Just like the rest of you, I am dying to see what this ultra-chic lady wears down the aisle and I look forward to seeing all of the festivities of my generation’s own royal wedding.
Here’s to Prince William and soon-to-be Princess Kate. I wish you nothing but happiness!
I am so happy to hear that the talented wedding gown designer Vera Wang is celebrating her 20th year anniversary. Instead of being trapped in the trends of her day (most of those 1980s gowns were absolute nightmares), Wang dared to be different by creating a modern gown of her own-and creating modern gowns for the modern bride. The world cannot thank her enough for ushering in a new era of style that continues to influence bridal fashion down to this day.
I conclude my Mad Men musings with Peggy Olson, the girl-next-door gone awry. Even though she has been through a lot, Peggy’s outer appearance still maintains a girl-next-door vibe, sweet, virginal, maybe even a little stuffy. Even so, I think she’s have a little fun on her big day and go for a classic tea-length frock, perhaps with a little pattern or lots of pouf.
I continue my Mad Men ravings with analyzing the possible bridal style by the queen of sexy secretaries Joan Harris (formerly known as Joan Holloway). She tends to wear clothes that fit her voluptuous frame to perfection, but rarely if ever resorts to the obvious ploy of cleavage-baring tops or mini skirts. Chances are, this red-headed siren would go for a trumpet-style gown that highlights her curves, but demure enough to maintain her sense of mystery.
It’s no secret that I am into all things retro, especially when it comes to fashion. It’s also no secret that retro fashion has seen a long-overdue resurrection thanks to the immense popularity of AMC’s hit drama Mad Men. After perusing a gallery of fashions worn by the likes of January Jones and the deliciously curvaceous Christina Hendricks, I got to thinking: what would the main mavens of Mad Men wear on their wedding day? After scouring through a few (hundred) dresses, I think I may have the answers. Let’s start this brief series with the ultimate desperate housewife: Betty Draper.
Betty Draper is all about looking preened and polished despite her tumultuous marriage to Don Draper.Since she has finally left the scoundrel for Prince Charming, I imagine that she would wear a classic ball gown, one with clean lines and a sash or belt to accentuate her slim waist.
Taking a trip to yesteryear can be a delicious experience, especially when it comes to weddings. This feature on Brides.com shows the wedding cakes enjoyed by some of Hollywood’s best matches from Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall to Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana. Ah, sweet memories!
Although the bridal mags will always carry sound advice on makeup looks for your big day, I couldn’t help but admire the looks on Elle.com’s beauty special. The makeup choices suit red-carpet royalty of various styles and skin tones, which will definitely suit you for their wedding day and many other occasions thereafter. After all, you are queen for the day.
Josh Brooks and Jung Lee of Fete are here to stay-well, for the fall, anyway.
The new show Wedded to Perfection premieres tomorrow night on TLC. I can’t wait to see this husband-and-wife duo tackle the issues related to planning over-the-top extravagant wedding celebrations in the bustling city of New York on top of raising a family. Let the glamour-and, the stress- begin!
The wait is over!
This Sunday, September 27, marks the second season of the ever-glamorous My Fair Wedding. The multi-talented (and ridiculously handsome) David Tutera returns to totally transform what could have been a tacky affair into a wedding that just oozes style, class, and elegance. Let’s see how Tutera takes on the new bevy of brides whose big days need a bit of tweaking from the expert. I can’t wait to see what he does this season!
…Oh, and this is the 100th post on Chicista Weddings! Everybody celebrate!
