The white wedding gown will always be a classic choice, but Spring 2013 Bridal Market saw some daring departures from this tradition. From accents of black to subtle pastels to fire-engine red (yes, RED), many designers produced gorgeous fashions for the technicolor bride, particularly Vera Wang with her collection of fiery wedding dresses.

Now that the temperatures are dipping, I would imagine that many brides would want warmth and coverage, which strapless dresses simply cannot offer. Thankfully, with a return to retro modesty and a current obsession with Bella Swan, sleeves are returning to bridal wear in a big way. Below: a slideshow of some favorites for inspiration. What do you think?

If a six-year-old girl (with great fashion sense) were imagining her wedding dress, it would most likely look something like one of the gowns that walked down the runway during the Watters and Watters Spring 2012 show. With fantastic gowns making use of appliqués, beading and subtle color (found in sashes and blush-colored gowns), Watters and Watters delivers graceful style and timeless beauty. In all, the classic bride would swoon over this collection.

Matthew Christopher has long been known for his throughly modern designs with a glamorous edge, perfect for the high fashion bride. His 2012 collection does not disappoint, with minimalist, but sculptural, gowns throughout. Matthew Christopher’s latest gowns are straight out of a stunning dream.

The Spring 2012 collection from Alfred Angelo proves once and again that there is no need to sacrifice style for savings. This budget-friendly bridal fashion brand incorporates high fashion details in its gowns so brides need not break the back for a touch of glamour with a range of styles to fit any body type. All in all, I am impressed.

Fancy’s collection of only four dresses may seem scarce, but it’s wholesome retro vibe is absolutely stunning. I am all for taking it back to yesteryear, so this abbreviated collection has my vote. For brides looking to travel back in time with classic chic, Fancy is fabulous.

It’s that time of year again!

The latest and greatest of bridal fashion has gone down the catwalk, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come down the aisle. My favorites are coming up, so stay tuned!

Maybe this Etsy seller caught my eye because it shares the same name as my mother.

On the other hand, it could be the lovely, vintage-inspired gowns that Love, June offers. In any case, I am impressed with the style options available to brides and bridesmaids looking for beautifully constructed, reasonably priced dresses made in a way that no piece of fabric gets thrown into the garbage. Talk about getting your money’s worth.

Happy 2011 everyone! I hope everyone had fun ringing in the new year.

With the new year comes a new resource for high-fashion brides. Net-A-Porter has launched a new wedding boutique that carries gowns, veils, accessories, shoes, and fashions for the bridesmaids and mother of the bride (and groom) created by top fashion houses such as Alberta Ferretti, Issa, and Valentino. Don’t let the labels intimidate you though, as all items come in a variety of styles and price points. Fabulous!
