The white wedding gown will always be a classic choice, but Spring 2013 Bridal Market saw some daring departures from this tradition. From accents of black to subtle pastels to fire-engine red (yes, RED), many designers produced gorgeous fashions for the technicolor bride, particularly Vera Wang with her collection of fiery wedding dresses.

Now that the temperatures are dipping, I would imagine that many brides would want warmth and coverage, which strapless dresses simply cannot offer. Thankfully, with a return to retro modesty and a current obsession with Bella Swan, sleeves are returning to bridal wear in a big way. Below: a slideshow of some favorites for inspiration. What do you think?

Jewelry is and always will be the icing on the cake of a bride’s ensemble. To make sure your bling is extra sweet, head over to Amamika & Shinji. This Tokyo-based  Etsy shop and private atelier sells artfully crafted sterling silver pieces inspired by whimsical motifs such as dragonflies, clovers and sakura, in addition to more simplistic designs. The prices may be a bit indulgent (from $40 to a whopping $940), but the pieces are well worth the cost.

It has been quite awhile since my last post on books for brides in the planning process-and, admittedly, this book isn’t exactly fresh from the presses. Even so, I finally got a chance to read it and I am more than pleased with this finding.

Fête: The Wedding Experience is written by Jung Lee, one half of the planning duo that runs Fête, the New York event planning company that, once upon a time, had its own show on TLC. While the book has mountains of photographs of breathtakingly beautiful weddings of ten different couples, it is more than just a pretty picture book. Each wedding featured tackles an aspect of wedding planning from creating a vision to the minute details without the run-of-the-mill checklists and charts that are often featured in wedding planning books. I admire how Lee offers such practical advice with a more organic approach, as her wisdom can be adapted to any wedding, regardless of style or budget. Oh, and did I mention that the weddings featured are absolutely gorgeous?

Emici Bridal prides itself on offering “Heirloom Quality Bridal Accessories,” and it shows. The new online boutique carries accessories for the bride, flower girl, and ring bearer fashioned out of high-quality fabrics and exceptional craftsmanship. Oh, and each piece is gorgeous as well! I myself have taken a special interest to Emici Bridal’s brooches, which can be made into a hair piece, and their bridal bouquets, which offer a long-lasting (and stunning) alternative to fresh blooms.

These pieces are on the higher end of the price spectrum, but in my eyes they are a worthwhile splurge.

Winter White

Apparently, I haven’t posted in a bit. Truth be told, a fantastic internship opportunity has come my way and, chances are, my new postings will be infrequent at best. But, not to worry. I won’t be jumping ship any time soon 🙂

In the meantime, take a look at this Anthropologie-inspired wedding on Green Wedding Shoes. Aside from the fact that Anthropologie is one of my absolute favorite stores, I’m so glad that this wedding captures simplicity, intimacy and craftiness at its best.

Autumn Affair

I know of a couple that got married several years ago in November and took advantage of the season. Instead of serving the usual chicken or filet mignon, they served a meal of turkey with stuffing and seasonal vegetables, presented elegantly and enjoyed by all. Perhaps they were ahead of the seasonal catering trend popping up this season. From what I can see, they came out on top (and under budget) for three reasons:

Guaranteed Freshness: So, it’s November and you’re hell-bent on having strawberries? Think twice, as these and other summer fruits are not at their peak season, ergo the quality may be sub-par. Instead, stick to fruits in season such as apples, figs, pomegranates, pears and cranberries, just to name a few, when they are at their best and can be incorporated into truly delectable dishes.

Cost-Effective: On the note of guaranteed freshness, I’m sure that you wouldn’t want to pay more for a lesser quality wedding meal, especially if you’re on a tight budget. Well, if you go for products that are out of season, that is exactly what you will be doing. Furthermore, holiday favorites such as turkey begin to cost less than chicken or fish during this time, making it a welcome alternative to the usual wedding meal suspects.

Comforting: There is also the comfort factor to consider. True, you and your guests may be eating a lot of turkey, stuffing, candied yams, pumpkin pie… but, is anybody complaining? These food tend to be comforting to most and rarely get complaints, thus making sure there is something for everyone. Besides, these food can be presented in an elegant, whimsical fashion (say pumpkin soup served in miniature pumpkins), lending a posh twist to a perennial favorite.

With that being said, here are my picks for a fall wedding menu, all taken from Epicurious.com:
